Louisville Elementary Counseling 

Welcome to the Louisville Elementary Counseling site! At LES, counseling is an integral part of the learning process for all students. Focusing on the whole child provides students with the foundation they need to thrive and reach their fullest potential. 

Here are some of the ways counseling is implemented at LES:

• Classroom Lessons: Counselor facilitates monthly lessons that can cover a variety of social-emotional topics such as self-awareness, self-advocacy, mindfulness, citizenship, and prosocial behaviors.  Counseling lessons support the other Social Emotional Learning initiatives in the classroom as well.

• Small-Group Counseling: Students in small groups will address specific issues and learn new skills to help them be more successful in and outside of the classroom. Small groups may focus on developing social skills, emotional self-regulation, changing families, and grief and other topics when needed. Groups will be comprised of 4-6 students lasting six to eight weeks. Students can be referred by teachers, school leaders, and parents/guardians. Parents/guardians will be notified before a student can participate.

• Individual Counseling: The counselor is available to work with students individually as needs arise.  Counseling is usually brief (1-5 meetings) and is solution-focused. If a student needs more intensive counseling, the counselor can discuss community resources with the student, parent and/or teachers as appropriate.

• Parent and community engagement: An essential part of student success and growth are the partnerships we form with families and community stakeholders.  The counselor supports activities and programs that encourage school-family engagement.
